Thank You For Your Interest

Bay View is more than just a summer retreat – it’s a community of families who enjoy learning, staying active, participating in the arts, worshipping, and volunteering together. For many families, Bay View is a home base for loved ones scattered near and far.

At Bay View, there is truly something for everyone no matter how you like to relax and unwind. For those wanting a peaceful getaway, there’s strolling through Memorial Garden, enjoying the sights and sounds of a Vespers concert, or playing card games on the porch. For those seeking action and adventure, there’s hiking in the woods, playing tennis and pickleball, or paddle-boarding around the bay, to name a few.

Although many Bay View activities are open to all, members enjoy an even greater level of benefits as noted in the Member Benefits tab. But, more importantly, becoming a member will start your lifelong journey of making one-of-a-kind memories with family and new friends while surrounded by the majestic beauty of Northern Michigan’s lush landscape, sparkling water, and million-dollar sunsets.

As one new member recently wrote, “Bay View is like heaven on earth to me, surrounded by opportunities to learn and grow in a beautiful community dedicated to the principles of faith, education, recreation, and the arts.”

Here are just a few of the benefits provided to both associate and lease-holding members:

  • Discounts on Bay View activities such as concerts, kids’ club, and tennis/pickleball;
  • Access to Bay View’s beach and boathouse that includes a recreational club for teenagers and sailing and swim lessons as well as rentals of lockers, boat slips, paddleboards, and kayaks;
  • Regular communication of Bay View events via member e-mails, bulletins, and newsletters.

To purchase a cottage and to vote on member issues, a lease-holding membership is required. Associate members are pre-approved for a lease-holding membership allowing for an easy transition when they are ready to purchase a Bay View cottage.

We are pleased that you are interested in membership in the Bay View Association of the United Methodist Church (“Association”), a Chautauqua community recognized as a National Historic Landmark. We offer two types of Membership: (1) Associate and (2) Leaseholding for those named on a cottage lease.

Leaseholding members have voting rights, and receive member rates on participation in Bay View facilities and activities.

Associate members are entitled to membership rates for all Bay View activities. An associate member is not entitled to any leasehold interest in the Association, and does not have the right to vote at any membership meeting of the Association.

The Association’s By-Laws establish the requirements for membership, the minimum contents of this Application and the review and decision-making process. The Association does not take race, color, sex, disability, familial status, national origin, religion, religious beliefs or lack thereof, or sexual orientation into consideration when making membership decisions.
